I don’t limit the label of “fashionable couple” to more than just pairings of different races. Fashionable couples are any pair that, more often than not, exist in urban settings which afford them anonymity, validation and safety in numbers. Essentially, can this couple kiss each other on a street corner in Jasper, Texas? No? Then they are a “fashionable couple.” These include:
- Mixed race couples (including the various “roons.”)
- LGBT couples
- Body modified couples (very, very pierced, tattooed, branded, etc.)
- Older woman, younger man
- Married couples who are very open and firm about never wanting to have children (okay, you’d have to wear that on a t-shirt in Texas for people to give you dirty looks, but still…)
If the very sight of you with your partner immediately conjures up presumptions about you and the nature of your relationship, then you are a fashionable couple.
